It's a mesh 'breathable" bumper. Zoe keeps scooting to the sides of her crib and going to sleep with her face against the bumpers. But we couldn't just do without either because she also likes to roll from tummy to back kinda violently and often bonks her head on the sides of the crib. This mesh thing solves both problems!
